AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE STAGES

According to www.twi-global.com. An autonomous vehicle, or a driverless vehicle, is one that is able to operate itself and perform necessary functions without any human intervention, through the ability to sense its surroundings. An autonomous vehicle utilizes a fully automated driving system in order to allow the vehicle to respond to external conditions that a human driver would manage.

In simple terms, an autonomous vehicle is a vehicle that we did not have to drive to get it to move from one place to one place.

What are the 6 stages of an Autonomous Vehicle ?

Level 0 (No Driving Automation)

All of the features on the car must be manually performed. No helping features such as for steering, acceleration, or braking.

Level 1 (Driver Assistance)

This is the entry-level automation stage where this stage is equipped with a single automated system either braking, acceleration, or steering. An example is adaptive cruise control.

Level 2 (Partial Driving Automation)

For this stage, the system is controlling 2 automated systems such as acceleration and steering. For example, is ADAS or the Advance Driver Assistance System. This automated system needs to be taken cautiously if needed to take control back the car if needed.

Level 3 (Conditional Driving Automation)

This stage is where the automated system controls the car in condition. But, it still needs human override if the system was not able to execute the task. This stage is where the car is equipped with “environmental detection” capabilities that can make informed decisions for themselves, such as accelerating past a slow-moving vehicle.

Level 4 (High Driving Automation)

At this stage, the system is controlling all the features available in a car. But, it still offers to the driver to take control and drive the car.

Level 5 (Full Driving Automation)

For this highest stage, the system offers a full automated vehicle that controls all the features and the passenger did not have to drive the car from one place to another place. This stages is where the car is not equipped with a steering wheel or braking/acceleration pedal.

So what you though about the Autonomous Car ?
